Asthma Counseling
The goal of asthma treatment is to keep you as symptom-free as possible.
This includes being able to engage in normal activities, keeping the use of rescue medications down (less than 4 doses per week), having daytime symptoms less than 4 days per week, and reducing episodes of worsening asthma.
This goal can be reached by most people with asthma by learning how to avoid asthma triggers.
Simple things you can do to avoid asthma triggers are:
- Protect yourself against dust mites;
- Wash all bedding in hot water at least twice per month;
- Change filters on heaters and air conditioners at least once per year;
- If you cannot get rid of your carpets, vacuum them often with a multi-layer, allergen-proof vacuum bag;
- Dust often and everywhere, including lampshades, walls and windowsills with a damp cloth;
- Store toys and books in closed bookshelves, drawers, or closets;
- Put all clothing in drawers and closets, and keep them closed;
- Cover air ducts with filters or cheesecloth. Change them frequently;
- Do not use pillows and bedding made with feathers;
- Clean bathrooms regularly with products that kill and prevent mould. Use exhaust fans to vent steam after a hot shower;
- Avoid perfumes and cosmetics with strong fragrances (hair shampoos, conditioners, body lotions etc);
- Get flu shots to prevent chest infections;
Every year, about 250 Canadians die from asthma. Most of these deaths, however, could have been prevented with proper education and management.
In recent years, pharmacists have become more active in inpatient care and demonstrate a positive impact on the outcomes of drug therapy in asthma patients.

For our patients we take back expired and unwanted medications:

- Over-the-counter medications
- Natural health products in oral dosage form
Due to improper disposal of these drugs, there are traces of pharmaceuticals in the environment in the soil and in the water. Concentration levels of these products may be very low but they may be enough to have adverse effects on the environment and on human health. Effects can also build up over time.
Please responsibly return unused, unwanted or expired medications and/or used medical sharps to our pharmacy.

The decision to quit smoking is an important, positive step towards improving your health.

We offer blister packing services for multiple medications.
Proper dosing is an integral part of maintaining good health
In addition to the services by our pharmacists, we also offer special packaging and clear labeling to meet our patients' unique needs.
Compliance/Blister Packs can have several pockets per day so that you can keep track of your medications.
Medications need to be taken at specific times during the day in order to receive the best benefit.
Many people, especially the elderly or those with multiple health conditions, must take a number of medications each day.
In order to achieve the greatest benefit from what has been prescribed, these medications must be taken in the correct dose and at the correct times each day.

You are eligible for the Medication Review program if you have a valid Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card and if any one of these is true:
- You take three or more prescription medications for a chronic condition.
- You have been diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes.
- You live in a licensed long-term care home.
- If the need arises, you may also be eligible for one or more follow-up appointments throughout the year.
